江蘇航運(yùn)職業(yè)技術(shù)學(xué)院是一所經(jīng)江蘇省人民政府批準(zhǔn)設(shè)置的全日制普通高等學(xué)校。學(xué)校坐落于風(fēng)景秀麗的長(zhǎng)三角地區(qū)宜居花園城市，著名的“體育之鄉(xiāng)”“教育之鄉(xiāng)”“建筑之鄉(xiāng)”“長(zhǎng)壽之鄉(xiāng)”——江蘇省南通市。學(xué)校隸屬于江蘇省交通運(yùn)輸廳，前身是1960年創(chuàng)辦的江蘇省南通河運(yùn)學(xué)校，1979年開(kāi)始向海上運(yùn)輸專(zhuān)業(yè)教育轉(zhuǎn)型，1989年更名為江蘇省南通航運(yùn)學(xué)校，1996年被確立為全國(guó)首批高職教學(xué)班試點(diǎn)學(xué)校，2000年升格為南通航運(yùn)職業(yè)技術(shù)學(xué)院，2020年更為現(xiàn)名。航海工匠精神穿越時(shí)空，航海職業(yè)教育薪火相傳。60多年來(lái)，一代又一代航院人堅(jiān)守著名教育家張謇先生的航海教育理念，以“自勉自?shī)^ 祈通中西”為校訓(xùn)，從這里奔赴海洋。

College Profile

Jiangsu Shipping Vocational and Technical College (hereinafter referred to as the college) is a full-time higher education college approved by the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government. The college is located in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. It is a garden city in the scenic Yangtze River Delta region and is known as the “Hometown of Sports”, “Hometown of Education”, “Hometown of Architecture” and “Hometown of Longevity”. The college is affiliated to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Transport. Its predecessor was Nantong River Transport School of Jiangsu Province, founded in 1960. In 1979, it began the transformation into an education institute specializing in maritime transportation, and in 1989 it was renamed Nantong Shipping School of Jiangsu Province. Established as one of the first experimental schools for higher vocational teaching in 1996, it was upgraded to Nantong Shipping Vocational and Technical College in 2000 and the name was changed to the current one in 2020. The spirit of seafaring craftsmanship goes through time and space, and the torch of maritime vocational education passes down from generation to generation. For more than 60 years, generations of people in the college have adhered to the famous educator Mr. Zhang Jian’s concept of navigation education and set sail for the ocean with the motto of “Encouraging ourselves and fervently praying for the Connection between China and the West”.

The college enjoys a high reputation and holds a prominent academic status among domestic higher vocational colleges. It is the construction unit of high-level higher vocational colleges with Chinese characteristics, the national quality higher vocational college, one of the first batch of national model (key) higher vocational colleges, the national model college of transportation vocational education, the excellent college evaluated by the Ministry of Education for personnel training in higher vocational colleges, the first batch of model higher vocational colleges of Jiangsu Province, the first batch of construction unit of high-level higher vocational colleges of Jiangsu Province, the president unit of the National Marine Vocational Education Group, the president unit of the Vocational Education Branch of China Society of Transportation Vocational Education, the executive vice president (legal person) unit of Jiangsu Navigation Society, and the president unit of Zheng He Research Institute in Jiangsu Province. It has been listed among the “Top 50 in the Country” more than 10 times in terms of comprehensive strength, employment quality, international influence, service contribution, teaching resources, student satisfaction and other aspects. In The 2022 Annual Report on the Quality of Vocational Education in China, the college was awarded as one of the top 100 excellent colleges in the Teacher Development Index of Higher Vocational Colleges, one of the top 100 excellent colleges in the Student Development Index of Higher Vocational Colleges, one of the top 60 superior colleges in the resource construction of higher vocational colleges, and one of the top 60 typical colleges in the service contribution of higher vocational colleges.

The college adheres to the college-running orientation of “based on transportation, serving the local area, facing the whole country, and reaching out to the world”. It closely aligns its professional offerings with the national development strategies of “Transportation Power”, “Maritime Power”, “Shipping Power” and “Yangtze River Delta Integration”. The college aims to provide high-quality technical and skilled personnel for the construction of comprehensive transportation system. It has formed a major layout of “water transportation majors as the main body, land transportation majors and aviation majors as the two wings, and the coordinated development of each major”. The college is unique among national higher vocational colleges in that it has one construction base of national high-level professional groups, 4 key majors of national key higher vocational colleges, 9 national key majors, 3 national model majors of transportation, and 2 key majors of improving the development ability of professional service industry supported by the central government.

The campus covers an area of nearly 1,000 mu, with the building area of over 360,000 square meters. It has 7 national vocational education training bases, 8 provincial vocational education training bases and 6 Nantong key Laboratories. There are more than 10 provincial and municipal science and technology service organizations such as the Jiangsu Ship Engineering Technology Research and Development Center. There are 37 on-campus training bases and nearly 300 off-campus internship and employment bases. In cooperation with enterprises, the college has built three productive teaching practice ships, namely “The Boat of Hailan”, “Changyang Gate” and “Changchun Gate”.

At present, there are nearly 13,000 full-time students in the college and 7 secondary schools, including School of Marine Technology, School of Marine Engineering, School of Shipping and Ocean Engineering, School of Transportation Management and Economics, School of Traffic Engineering, School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Information, School of Humanities and ArtsIt also has 2 general education teaching units, including School of Marxism and the Department of Basic Courses offering 42 majors in total. The college has established and operated 4 sets of Quality Management Systems, including the Education Quality System, the Training Quality System, the Clean Government Risk Prevention and the Control System and Internal Control System, and obtained 6 certificates of quality system in accordance with ISO9001 Quality Standard, quality management rules of the National Maritime Administration and the Norwegian Classification Society. The college fully implements the deployment requirements of the national education administration department on teaching consultation reform, constructed and formed a distinctive internal quality assurance system, and passed the provincial on-spot review. The consultation reform case “Building a Long-term Mechanism for 1234 Consultation Reform Operation, Enabling Double High Construction and High-quality Development” was rated as an “Excellent Typical Case of Teaching Consultation Reform in National Higher Vocational Colleges” and was selected for national typical case compilation and Jiangsu excellent case collection.

At present, there are 540 full-time teachers in the college, including 58 with senior professional titles, accounting for 43.89% of the teaching staff. The proportion of teachers with master's degree or above is 79.1%, and the proportion of double-qualified teachers is 71.48%. The college has a large number of high-level leading talents of higher vocational education, including 3 recipients of the special allowance from The State Council, one renowned teacher of the National “10,000 People Plan”, one Figure of the Year of 2021 “Moving Transportation”, 7 renowned teachers of National Curriculum Ideological and Political Teaching, 5 professional leaders of National Higher Vocational Education of Transportation, 3 young scientific and technological talents recognized by the Ministry of Transport, 3 national renowned teachers of transportation vocational education, 4 renowned teachers of Jiangsu colleges and universities, 4 craftsmen of Jiangsu province, 18 renowned teachers of Jiangsu transportation system, 12 renowned teachers of Nantong colleges and universities, 19 high-level talents of “333 High-level Talents Training Project” of Jiangsu province, 13 young and middle-aged academic leaders in Jiangsu Province’s “Qinglan Project” of Jiangsu province, 13 technical experts of Jiangsu province and over 70 outstanding talents at other levels, including candidates selected for the “100 Talents Project” of Jiangsu Transportation system. The college has one national teaching innovation team, one National curriculum Ideological and political teaching team, one national skill master studio, one national “double-qualified” teacher training base, one national teaching innovation team training base, 9 Jiangsu excellent teaching teams, 4 Jiangsu Science and technology innovation teams, and one double-qualified renowned teacher studio of Jiangsu vocational education and one skill inheritance and innovation platform of Jiangsu vocational education. Professional teachers of the college have actively participated in major national projects. One of them participated in the escort mission in the Gulf of Aden, eight participated in the national scientific survey in Antarctic and Arctic, and two participated in the reclamation project of islands and reefs in the South China Sea.

The college has made outstanding achievements in education and teaching reform. It has led the establishment of one national teaching resource repository and participated in the construction of 5 national teaching resource repositories. It has taken the lead in formulating 5 professional profiles and teaching standards of higher vocational education and 4 undergraduate profiles of higher vocational education, including Marine Engineering Technology, Water Transportation Safety Management, Port Machinery and Intelligent Control, and Port and Waterway Engineering Technology. It has developed 6 national excellent online open courses and exemplary courses of ideological and political science, and 29 provincial online open courses, model courses of ideological and political science, and excellent courses taught in English. In 2014 and 2018, it was awarded the first prize of National Teaching achievement for two consecutive years, making it the only two-time champion of national transportation higher vocational colleges. In 2021, two textbooks edited by staff of the college won the first prize and the second prize of the first National Textbook Construction Award.

In accordance with the requirements of modern vocational education system construction and the concept of lifelong education, the college constructs a multi-form, multi-specification and multi-level educational structure, which integrates diploma education and vocational qualification certification, adult higher education and short-term training. It has set up the “National Vocational Skills Appraisal Institute”, the “National Vocational Skills Appraisal Station of Transportation Industry of Ministry of Transport”, the “Nantong Training Base of Education Management Information Center of Ministry of Education”, the “Nantong Training Base of China Maritime Service Center”, the “Jiangsu Waterway Skills Talents Education and Training Base”, the “Jiangsu Seafarers Training Center”, the “Jiangsu Province Veterans Personalized Training Base” and other training institutions (bases). The annual scale of vocational training reaches 26,000 people. The total number of adult education students is about 4,000. It provides a variety of pathways for academic advancement such as upgrading from high school to college, from college to bachelor’s degree, and diploma to bachelor’s degree for working professionals and full-time students.

The college actively engages in international exchange activities and extensively promotes Sino-foreign cooperative education programs. It actively explores innovative paths education internationalization. It is a member institution of the Global Maritime Education and Training Federation, offering education for international students in 6 majors. Under the “Belt and Road” Initiative, the college endeavors to serve companies in their internationalization efforts and has jointly built the cross-border college-enterprise community entity of “Sino-Singapore (Nantong) International Maritime Training Center”. It has established overseas “Luban Workshops” in Myanmar, Cambodia and other countries, and has established good inter-instituional cooperation and exchange relationships with over 30 universities in more than 20 countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Singapore, India, Malaysia and Australia.

The college actively implements talent training models such as the “dual-track and four-stage” model, the “three-tier and six-stage integration of school and industry” model, and the “alternating between theory and practice” model. It deepens the cooperation between college and enterprises, and integrates industry and education to cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talents. The college actively serves local socio-economic development. It is the experimental college of the national 1 X certificate system, and the employment rate of its graduates has consistently remained above 98%. With high employment quality and high employment rate in related fields, the college has been awarded the title of the Advanced Collective of Graduates’ Employment in Jiangsu Province for four consecutive times, and has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Colleges in the country for examplary experience in graduates’ employment work. In the past five years, students from this college have won more than 60 first prizes in various national and provincial competitions. The college won the Overall Champion of the National College Group in the 5th Chinese Sailor Skills Competition in 2019, the Gold Medal in the National Finals of the 7th China International “Internet Plus” College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2021, the Gold Medal in the National Finals of the 8th China International “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students in 2022, the First Prize in the Ship Main Engine and Shafting Installation Competition of the Higher Vocational College Group in the National Vocational College Skills Competition, and the Gold Medal in the 13th “Challenge Cup” Chinese College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition. In terms of personnel training and innovation in 2023, the college has been in the forefront of the national marine vocational education.
